Once we got an Echo, every time Blake was in the kitchen, he would ask it to play "Oh, Happy Day" by the Edwin Hawkins Singers.
Shortly after his death, as I was sitting alone in the house missing him, the Echo started playing "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. I didn't know the song at the time, but something about it was familiar. Thinking the device had a glitch, I went to turn it off and the music stopped. When I sat down, it started playing again. I turned it off, but felt a chill and kept thinking about it until I searched the phrases "clap your hands" and "happiness is the truth." Once I played it all the way through online, I remembered Blake telling me months before that he like the song. All I had remembered was its upbeat, jazzy impression. When I heard all the words, it seemed a close to perfect description of what I hoped he was feeling on the other side. I like to think Blake sent me that song, which I still listen to often and smile.
